My Favourite Car

Had 9 blokes turn up to mens group on Thursday, so to break the ice with the newbies I posed the question….which car was the best one you have ever had.

One bloke is about 34 and has owned 30 cars! Alfas, Fiats, Hilux etc etc…

The answers that came back were…. HT Holden, XC Coupe, Subaru Brumby, Toyota Supra, ZD Fairlane and a few others.

My favourite car I have even owned is the one I have now…But a close second was my Mazda Rx4 Coupe…which rumour has it could top the speed limit on a country road in second gear, and exceed the double ton in 4th…rumour has it.

We do some pretty stupid things as males in particular in our cars. And we waste a lot of money on them. Wonder if it has always been that way…have men done up chariots…or found the fastest horse before the internal combustion motor came along? Probably…..

Either way…every now and then I dream of finding another Mazda Rotary to play with….preferably the lighter more nimble Rx3 or a series one Rx7. But the reality would probably be far less desirable than the dream.

Mark Riley

It was disappointing to note that the one article in The West which referred to the Abbot/Riley affair was a rather lame piece by Andrew Probyn. His analysis may suffer from a natural journalistic bias to defend fellow journalist Mark Riley. After the story broke, it quickly became evident that public perception had turned on Riley who had seriously misjudged the intelligence of the Australian public. In doing so, Riley sadly was guilty of the very thing he insinuated Abbot had done, denigrate the memory of a fine Australian soldier. It is a pity that The West Australian seemingly ignored the real story, that a journalist had got it wrong.

This is a good piece of analysis

Torn…

“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” —E. B. White

February….time to focus

Life in Churches follows patterns and seasons.

February is the season for vision and focus at Inglewood Church.

My heart and my vision is to ‘shine a light’, its what makes my heart move a beat quicker, its how God has wired me.

For February we are looking at this for the Month.

Don't Mess with the Missionary Man

‘Don’t Mess with the Missionary Man”

Looking at the Mission aspect of the local Church, with some thoughts from the Book of Acts. Hopefully be a challenging and invigorating start to the year.

Booing Michael Clark

Apparently the Gabba crowd booed the increasingly unpopular Australian Test and One Day Cricketer Michael Clark. It seems the tide of popular opinion has turned over his ill form and public persona.

It just seems so unaustralian to boo one of our own cricketers. The Gabba crowd has form in this area. They booed Adam Gilchrist when he came on after replacing Ian Healy, one of Queenslands own. With the benefit of history, and Adams sterling career, that was a very unfortunate choice.

Along with bad form, perhaps its the way Michael wears his hair, struts around advertising underwear or dates models, who knows.

Either way, leave the booing for the real enemies, the English, and the umpires.

Pictures in the Park

Went well last night, glad we were not doing it tonight, with rain and wind forecast!
It was hot, and hot setting up.

But the main thing is there were about 250 people who rocked up, mostly non-church folk.
The volunteers and Pastors did a great job of setting and packing up.

The idea behind this event is so we can let people know there is a Church in their community who cares about them, and who wants to serve them. We set up a big screen, big sound, in a local park, put on a sausage sizzle and bouncy castle and show a family friendly and focused movie. You have to get a licence to show the movie, but that is not that hard. It costs money, but not too much that cant be covered by a donation. One of my good friends has a great set up with a screen on the back of a trailer which he lets me use.

The movie “Up is in my opinion the best animated film I have ever seen. What a moving story.
Look forward to next week.
