A tale of two stars

As one wizard’s career comes to a close, a star emerges from the rubble of Freo’s 2008 season.
Jeff Farmer was arguable the best small forward that Western Australia has ever produced.

Despite what ignorant people might say from the sidelines, Jeff Farmer was a team player to the very end. He was grateful to both his former clubs, Fremantle and Melbourne for the opportunity to play AFL. He played 249 games of football, at times sublime, at times wasteful, but never forgettable. From an entertainment point of view, Jeff never dissapointed.

His first game wearing a Fremantle jumper was a scratch match against Collingwood, and the excitement in the crowd at what was to come was palpable. It is fitting then that his final game was also against the Pies, in which he kicked 3 goals, two of them with a difficulty rating of 9, and passed off a few others. In total he kicked 483 goals, considerably more than any other Aboriginal player. Many respected commentators have questioned his omission from the Indigenous Team of the Century.

While many media types have sniped at Jeff behind the safety of a microphone, the true Fremantle fan knows Jeff as a team player, fiercely loyal, and always willing to sign a jumper or show a cheeky grin.

As Jeff retires, Frematle welcomes Rhy Palmer into illustrious company in winning the NAB AFL Rising Star. Palmer declared at the start of the year that he would have been to have just played 5 games.
Palmer is the sort of player that supporters love to watch. His evasion skills are incredible, and his ability to win possession is incredibly valuable.
In other good news for long suffering Fremantle supporters, Garrick Ibbotson managed to come fifth in the prestigious award.

Busy busy busy

With Melinda’s Nanna passing away last week….things have been pretty rotten…as well as being busy around here.
I have just finished off the video for the service…..breathe out Mark!

About 20 hours of work into a 12 minute video. I did about 10 of those hours….the technical side. With such a big and sensitive family, its important to get a picture of everyone in it…..and to get the music and feel of it right.

I just got back from Pinnaroo funeral chapel making sure it is going to work. With all the issues with Codecs I have been having at church, I wanted to make sure there will be no problems with it. I have rendered it into 3 formats, just to make sure…….
I will put it online at some point for the family to be able to view if they cant get there on Friday.

Sunday…..

Another great Sunday.

Big crowd in, despite a lot of people away.
Lady from church sung a song before communion….beautiful, moving, poignant moment…ministered too.

Encouraged people to invite their friends and family along to our church launch service….should be great…..

Took the kids down to the park with the dog around 4.30pm….Windswept Bayswater…..two beautiful kids…..perfect

.

Kerr to leave the sinking ship

Judd…..gorrn
Cousins…..gorrrn

Kerr….wants to be gorrrn.

Cant blame them really.
Worsfold has coached his side to the worst result ever. EVER.

West Coast have never had a worst season than 2008.

But of course…there is no pressure on the coach.

I think Worsfold is okay….I just cant stand the inequity in reporting. It grates me.

Adobe Photoshop

For some time now I have been using powerpoint, Gimp and Microsoft Photo Manager to make up brochures and graphics for church. The results have been moderate.

This week my friend challenged me to bite the bullet and start to use Photoshop. It is not dissimilar to Gimp, but is a steep learning curve.

Once I got some advice, I was away. After intially producing a document at only 72 dpi…and wondering why it was all grainy, I finally produced the document below, which we are having printed off. It has taken a while to get it, but now I have, I think I will be able to produce some much better graphics and other publications.

Focus…Last message

Wayne Carey was a marvelous footballer, he played for the Kangaroos Football Club and was involved in the greatest period of that clubs history when the team won two premierships.
Yet post football it would seem, despite his material success, his life has lurched from one off field drama to another. He was on Andrew Dentons show, enough rope and it was an incredible interview. The title of that show is very apt…enough rope…Andrew Denton gives the people being intereviewed enough rope…enough latitude that their own words, their own testimony if you like, is enough for the audience to decide for themselves what the sum of the persons life is.
Wayne Carey told the story of his father, a typical story for many young Australian males…distant, abusive, violent, interested in alcohol more that anything else.

But something he said really made me sorry for Wayne, it put a human face on what formerly may have just been a cariacature of a man.
He shared with Andrew Denton that his father had never watched him play football.Never. Not growing up through the young ranks, not playing under 18’s, not during his formative years at North Melbourne, and in fact not even at his sons grand final appearances….despite being offered tickets.
How would that make a son feel? A son..and a daughter for that matter, seeks, desires the approval, the recognition from the parent that at least in part is responsible for their being.
Is it a mystery why God calls Himself our Father…or is it obvious. We are made in His image, we are designed to reflect His personality, we are made for His glory. There is something deep within the Christian which desires to have our heavenly fathers approval.
