Derby…..McManus wins

It was a great day yesterday.
Fremantle did the right think by our favourite son….Shaun McManus.
He has played with courage and heart, and left nothing on the field….
Thank goodness the team managed to smash a rather hapless Eagles side.
Woosha was clearly outcoached, with some puzzling matchups…the young player on Mc Pharlin no match for him.

Pavlich seemed to slot back into the side with very few problems (!)

Palmer, Mayne, Ibbotson, Schammer, Crowley, Peake….proved again we have a good basis for moving forward.

If you are on Facebook, please look me up and join my “West Coast for Wooden Spooners”. They are only above Melbourne by the smallest of margins…Go Dees!!!

What a great weekend

Burma Appeal

We raised over $2500 which will help 20 families survive for 3 months. Pretty good for one Saturday Night activity. We had a lot of fun, auctions, raffles, Burmese food (YUM!!), bouncy castle, great music from Soul Jam and the Myanmar young peoples choir.

It wont save the world, but it will help. The money is distributed through the Baptist Union, through Churches which gets help to the people on the ground…..

Sunday Church

Another great day…some visitors again…..I am so joyful with what is happening at church. There are some difficulties…and tensions…..but even this is evidence to me of real growing pains, which are the best type of pains to have! We moved the stage back even further today, and finally seemed to have enough room for the chairs. But I dont think this will last long.

Angus Buchan is coming…..

I am helping to get the word out about the upcoming Angus Buchan Crusade. Eliot is doing the worship, and Q is doing the web presence. It is going to be awesome. Angus is a powerful and confronting speaker, specifically for men. If you want to have a look at Q’s excellent work, use th link below. It is just a ‘splash page’ at this stage, but shortly you will be able to register and check out the info for the Western Australian conference.

Zechariah 4

For the month of August our church is going to be looking at the 4th chapter of Zechariah….
should be fun!

Here is one of the paragraphs from this weeks message….

For the next month we as a church are going to look at this chapter of scripture. Zechariah 4. I once heard the story of a pastor who preached a great message, the people were touched and came back expecting more of the same. Well they got more of the same because he preached exactly the same message the next week. There were a few people who had not heard it the first time, and they thought it was great. Even those who had heard it the first time thought…yes this is good….The third week everyone rocked up and lo and behold…the pastor preached the same message. A delegation of deacons got together and summed up the courage to approach the rather fiery young man to ask him to explain his actions….
They approached him and said…look the message was great the first week, interesting the next….but now…why three times?
The pastor turned to them with passion and fire in his eyes and said…well you did not do what I said the first week, so I am going to keep giving the same message until you do!!!!

Having a keen vision of what God wants for your life is very important

Now in the month of September at the last Sunday in September we are going to have vision Sunday where we explore what the vision of our particular church is.

But this morning I want to speak about what your vision for your life is.
You see Gods vision for your life is that you would have a good life…a life that is full of promise and blessing. This does not mean you will be rich or materially well off, plenty of Christians are not…and I don’t read about Jesus cruising around the dead sea in his powerboat…
(see you at church for the rest!)

It is very dangerous….

Being so close to what I consider to be one of the best cafes in Perth…and probably one of the best butchers.

I have already blogged about the “Beaufort St Merchant”. Every time I go there, it never dissapoints. Today was no exception…a large flat white, takeaway. Smooth, perfect temperature…lovely ‘nutty’ taste. Especially when you get the young bloke making it…he takes real care.

Then across the road to Elmars butchers for a hot cooked Bratwurst sausage….mmman….Those guys have been there forever, churning out quality meats and small goods. They have a little roaster which they sell lunchtime sausages, meats and sausage rolls from. The sausage rolls are the best you can buy….but today…the Bratwurst went down a treat!

New Office

Moved into our new offices at 6th Avenue…..New might be pushing it a little! The building was actually built over 80 years ago. But the office has had a repaint, and some good desks put in.
Its nice…and very welcoming.
Set up broadband after the horrors we had with AAPT, glad to go with Amnet. Adsl2 connection….yes!

Spent some time yesterday doing some pastoral counselling…that takes it out of you.
Today I am back home looking after two kids, both of whom are vomitting….and trying to get my sermon done.

Sometimes being at work is a lot easier than being at home/work!!
